Wolfshirt with Mods

I built this Wolfshirt Octave fuzz for Shaun Aguilar from the band Archetypes. The octave switch is moved to a footswitch with status led. It also has a Fat/Bright mod switch which changes the tone from Thick lower midrange chunk to scooped mids with blazing high end. To do this mod you pull the c10 capacitor (typically 3nF) and wire it to a DPDT switch with 1nF on oneside and 10nF on the other.

The enclosure is a horizontal hammond 1590BB painted Saddle Tan. The graphics were provided by Shaun. The knobs are black davies 1510's and the leds are waterclear red and blue.

HUGE FUZZ

I made this custom fuzz at the request of Timothy Partridge who wanted a Big Muff without the tone control and he also wanted it to be modded for maximum possible gain. The tone section from the Big Muff does a lot of heavy shaping and cuts the signal down significantly so omitting the tone section increases the gain. Further more I did the creamy dreamer mods which starts with the Triangle Spec and substitutes jumpers for the emitter resistors of q1, q2, and q3 for even more gain of an asymmetrical nature. To omit the tone section you just remove c10, c11, r18, r19, and jumper c10 and tone 2-3 this passes the signal straight from q3 to the coupling cap of q4. With all these mods done to the circuit you end up with a HUGE sounding fuzz with damn near infinite sustain with a really open flat tone response.

The enclosure is a Hammond 1590BB painted in Automotive White. The knobs are black Davies 1470 knurled pointer knobs and the led is RED waterclear.

St. Michael The Archangel

I build this fuzz for my buddy David Haley. This is a 5 knob Zombii fuzz. The enclosure is a horizontal Hammond 1590BB. The enclosure is painted Almond white and features red Davies 1510 knobs and a red waterclear LED. The graphic is a diptych featuring two of Albrecht Durer's engravings; the one of the left is St. Michael the Archangel, and the one on the right is The Seven Trumpets are Given to the Angels.

NEAT NEAT NEAT

This purple pedal is a distortion pedal I build for Jesse Anderson. I used Madbean's boomstick pcb to make it. The
Boomstick is comprised of one dynamic and two static mosfet stages with a Big Muff type tonecontrol, as well as a second order low pass filter at the end. It creates a very thick distortion similar to an overdriven Marshall ® JTM45. GAIN controls the dynamic mosfet gain stage, Tone is a Big Muff style derivative, and Volume sets the overall output level. The SUB switch adds a 470nF cap in parallel with the 47nF coupling cap to increase sub frequency bass. The BOOST switch shorts the source of the q3 mosfet for more gain.

The overall distortion sound is really natural sound reminiscent of early AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, and The Damned. The Damned ended up being the inspiration for the artwork with a picture of Damned singer David Vanian. The pedal was painted with Rustoleum Painter's Touch in Gloss Grape. The led is a super bright blue LED and the knobs are violet davies 1510. The enclosure is a horizontal Hammond 1590BB.

On The Road

I am currently not taking any new orders for pedals. I have 3 weeks worth of orders to build, and I am leaving for tour on the 22nd of february and I will not be home until march 18th. This break will give me a chance to catch up on orders. I fully expect to get all current orders completed before I leave. I will still be answering emails and questions but please no orders. I will post tour dates once everything gets confirmed and hope to see some of you out there on the road.

GREEN RUSSIAN

The original Russian Green Big Muff was made under license from Electro-Harmonix by Sovtek of Russia from 1994-1998. These variations of the classic Big Muff Pi are becoming extremely popular since showing up the pedal board of Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys. This clone of the Green Russian is faithful to the sound of the original while adding true bypass, a dc power jack, and it takes up a smaller footprint on the pedal board.

BD-2 mods

I generally hate doing mod work because for me half the fun is paint and graphics and creating something from scratch. I have been sitting on this pedal for over 3 months and it has been glaring at me for not modding it in a timely fashion, but today was the day. The first name I think of when I think of MODS is Robert Keeley the expert in mods so I checked out his site about his BD2 modded pedals, and if you scroll to the bottom he details the mods he does to the BD2.

The BD2 is a great sounding pedal to begin with so I was really skeptical that modding it would improve it all that much, but it certainly sounds better post mods. I would say the most worth while mod is the FAT switch. This switches a .068uF cap in series with the tone cap to fatten the tone up a bit. The scariest part about it for me was drilling the enclosure, and thankfully the enclosure is made of a relatively soft metal and my drill bit went through very easily. The other mods include increasing the input cap to .1uF for more bass, and changing the clipping diodes to an assymetrical arrangement for a more natural tube like clipping sound.

Of course cosmetically I can't just let a pedal leave me looking the same way it came in so I swapped the gold inlay knobs for some silver inlay knobs and put a davies 1900h on the tone knob. I swapped the led out for 3mm water clear green led.

IC MUFF

I made this pedal for my buddy Jesse Crowe. It is a clone of the famed late 70's op-amp IC muff. Famous for being the secret weapon on Billy Corgan's guitar tracks on Smashing Pumpkin's Siamese Dream album. It is alot crunchier than your typical transistor gain stage big muff. The classic big muff fuzz circuit has 4 silicon transistor gain stages, and the IC MUFF uses 2 dual opamps to replace the gain stages a JRC4558D, and a μa741. The clipping is 3x1n914 diodes in series in each direction. It sounds like no other muff, and slamming the front end of a dirty JCM800 it nails the rhythm guitar tone from Siamese Dream. I used this layout.

The pedal is housed in a vertical Hammond 1590BB enclosure painted in Testor's Lime Ice. The graphic is an image of English mystic Aleister Crowley. The knobs are violet Davies 1510 and the LED water clear green.
